6. Final Balance Due

On Friday, May 26, all remaining tuition is due.

Two weeks prior to the program, students will gather online to begin getting to one another, and explore some of the topics from the course, to establish a shared baseline for our time together.

7. Precurriculum

Whether at an airport or on campus, we look forward to greeting you when you arrive, to help you settle into our community!

8. Travel/Settle In

This program is targeted toward all current high school students. While many students are rising juniors and seniors, interested students who are rising sophomores and graduating seniors have frequently participated, and are eagerly encouraged to apply. International students who are fluent English speakers and possess a genuine interest in the course topic are also eligible to apply.

Prep’s highest priority is identifying students who exhibit the capacity to think critically about pressing social and environmental challenges, the passion to address them, and the desire to develop skills to solve problems and create positive change.

We do not expect students to come with any specific pre-existing knowledge of the Institute’s topics. There is no minimum GPA requirement for participation in the program. While we like to see that students are academically responsible, we are more concerned with their leadership potential, critical thinking skills and passion for the subject matter.

The final cohort of students is assembled with consideration of geographic, racial, economic, and experiential diversity.

Eligibility

Tuition + Room & Board $6,300

Tuition supports program expenses, including instructor salaries, field trip transportation, classroom supplies, guest speaker honorariums, and room and board.

Scholarships cover tuition, room, and board. All students provide their own travel expenses. Scholarships support for international students may be limited—interested students are invited to contact us prior to applying.

Prep aims to provide an inclusive and accessible platform for all students. No student should let concerns regarding tuition prevent them from applying. We strive to fully meet every student’s need, with both full and partial scholarships available.

Cost

Fundraising is a critical and empowering skill for change-making. All students will be supported in fundraising some portion of their expenses (potentially travel costs, or spending money), regardless of their ability to pay. As a component of the Institute’s pre-curriculum, Prep staff will work directly with students to develop and implement their personal fundraising plan.

Students reside in double occupancy rooms in a Loyola University’s dormitory hall. We put great care into selecting roommate pairings to ensure a positive experience. All rooms are air-conditioned and fully furnished with an extra-long twin bed, desk, chair, and dresser.

Three daily meals are provided at a campus dining hall, with all dietary restrictions incorporated. On days when field trips are scheduled, boxed lunches are provided.

Residence + Dining

Loyola University’s robust campus safety protocols and Prep’s policies and staff oversight ensure students’ safety while in Chicago. Students adopt a buddy system and regular check-in schedule while on campus and in the immediate area, and off-campus excursions are chaperoned by program staff.

We encourage you to contact us with specific questions and concerns regarding student safety.
