Housing and dining costs are included in the program fee. Transportation to and from field trip sites will also be arranged by program staff. Students may bring funds for personal expenses such as laundry, shopping in downtown Oberlin or an occasional dinner out at one of the local cafes. We suggest bringing no more than $150 for the two weeks.
Most places at Oberlin accept credit and debit cards, although there are some shops that are cash-only. ATM’s are easily accessible on Oberlin’s campus.
Some international students are required to apply for a B1/B2 Business/Tourist visa. Application fees are $160. Processing times vary from country to country, and can take anywhere between five days to three months. Students requiring a visa are strongly encouraged to contact the consulate or embassy in their country of residence to book appointments. Foresight Design Initiative will be able to provide a letter of acceptance to the program upon request.
International students may also want to purchase an unlocked phone and a local sim card. Both purchases should cost no more than $35 for two weeks. We recommend purchasing a Verizon Wireless connection.
